Commuter Challenge

2009 National Commuter Challenge Event will take place from May 31 to June 6 during Canadian Environment Week and Clean Air Day (June 3, 2009)! In 2008, 31,826 Canadians in over 168 communities and 1688 workplaces made their sustainable transportation choices heard by registering with the Commuter Challenge. See the full results for the 2008 Commuter Challenge here.

Commuter Challenge is a national program that encourages Canadians to walk, cycle, ride-share/carpool, tele-work or take transit instead of driving alone to work.  Individual Canadians can participate in addition to workplaces.  We encourage you to give your car some time off in June and make a difference!

The program is based on a friendly competition between workplaces and communities across Canada to see which has the highest percentage participation rates during the week. By recording participation online, Canadians are able to see how their healthier commutes affect greenhouse gases reductions by tracking kilometers traveled.

Clean Air Day – June 3, 2009

This year National Clean Air Day is on June 3. Clean Air Day is a celebration of environmentally-friendly activities that promote clean air and good health across Canada. It is a great opportunity to make environmentally-friendly lifestyle choices, for you, your family and your community. Visit the Canada’s Clean Air Day web site to learn more (http://www.cleanairday.com).

Rivers to Oceans Week (June 8 – 14)

Rivers to Oceans Week (June 8 – 14) is an opportunity to work together to create an understanding of Canada’s watersheds, our connection to fresh- and salt-water environments and what everyone can do to protect and keep watersheds healthy for people and wildlife.
