LOW-INCOME RESOLUTIONS. Housing developers and operators who want to train and employ local people with employment barriers should get public support to do so, according to a resolution passed at the Canadian Housing and Renewal Association conference this past weekend. A second resolution supported a national partnership "to moderate energy poverty through the implementation of home energy efficiency measures, which will also help to meet shared energy and environmental goals. CHRA urges the Government of Canada to expand the federal EcoEnergy Retrofit program with an additional $250 million annual investment over five years to target low-income households." Both resolutions were moved by Bruce Pearce, vice-chair of Green Communities Canada and a tireless advocate low income energy efficiency.

LIVE GREEN. Two staff from Toronto Green Community – Minaz Asani-Kanji and Whitney Crooks – were among the six "neighbourhood guidance counsellors" featured in a Toronto Star story about the City of Toronto’s Live Green community animation program. The animators will help people "identify, organize and launch neighbourhood-based climate change and clean air initiatives," including help with funding, regulations, permits, approvals, and access to experts and suppliers.

PBS documentary shows evangelical Christians and leading scientists witnessing the effects of global warming on Alaska’s environment, although "many in the evangelical community feel recognition of global warming is in opposition to their mission" … On Thin Ice looks at melting Gangotri Glacier in the Himalayan Mountains, the source of the Ganges River, and extrapolates the dire consequences.
