VANCOUVER, BC–Would you like to help your local school win $1000 and celebrate students’ green projects? Until March 15, British Columbians are encouraged to go online and vote for Viewer’s Choice Awards in the BC Green Games, a new eco-action contest from Science World and the Ministry of Education.
The contest, with $50,000 in prizes to be awarded to BC schools, celebrates and shares eco-actions from BC’s students. Projects are submitted using creative media such as videos or photo-essays. The Viewer’s Choice Awards will see two $1000 prizes awarded–one to elementary students and one to secondary students.
“We’re thrilled with the inspiring projects submitted by students from all across BC,” says Pauline Finn, the vice president of Community Engagement for Science World. “It will be a tough decision for viewers to pick their favourites amongst the videos, PowerPoint presentations and other digital media projects. BC’s students are proving they not only think green, they act green.”
Projects can be viewed at www.bcgreengames.ca. The hope is that students and teachers will also use the website as a resource for ideas to create a greener future in their own communities.
Another 24 winning projects will be decided on by a team of judges from across BC that includes teachers, scientists, government members and business leaders. In addition, three of the prize-winning schools will be randomly drawn to win 2.5 kilo-watt (KW) photovoltaic arrays, designed to provide supplemental clean solar energy. The arrays are provided by SolarBC (www.solarbc.ca).
Winners will be announced on March 27.
The BC Green Games are supported by Living Water Smart: BC’s Water Plan, TELUS and Solar BC.
