Attention: Lungs of Metro Vancouver and International Carbon Sink at Risk
The Governments of British Columbia and Canada are poised to break ground in the Lower Fraser River Valley on the Pacific Gateway Project. The side effects of this misguided initiative are tremendous for all sectors of our society. The fish and wildlife on the Fraser River and in the Estuary will be further compromised. More farmland, streams and wilderness areas will be reduced or obliterated. A massive peat bog and carbon sink called Burns Bog will be impacted. More vehicle traffic and unwanted development will be encouraged, creating more greenhouse gases. More First Nations sacred and archeological sites will be covered over.
Pacific Gateway Project will certainly significantly undermine the biological integrity of the Lower Fraser River Basin and the complex ecological processes that support it…
