Smart Growth on the Ground (SGOG) has begun in the City of Prince George!

SGOG is a unique program to help BC communities create more sustainable neighbourhood plans using community-specific solutions with the ultimate goal of turning that vision into reality. SGOG is a partnership between the Design Centre for Sustainability at UBC, the Real Estate Institute, and Smart Growth BC. Prince George is the fourth partner community and the first Northern community to participate in the SGOG process. This iteration of SGOG will consider climate change and neighbourhood planning issues in the context of downtown Prince George.
We are launching the project on July 8th with an Opening Forum to introduce the project, hear from the community about important downtown issues, and begin a community mapping exercise. Please join us for this event!
Event info: Tuesday, July 8th, 4-8:30pm
Address: Coast Inn of the North, Tabor Room,
770 Brunswick Street, Prince George, BC V2L 2C2, Canada

This event is an Open House format, so please drop in any time to participate in discussion and contribute your thoughts about downtown places and spaces. There will be a presentation to introduce the project and the smart growth principles delivered at 4:30 pm and again at 7pm. Discussion of community issues and mapping of community places and spaces will be ongoing activities throughout the afternoon/evening. Local, issue-oriented community organizations representing aspects of “smart growth” will also be at the event to connect with residents and contribute to discussion.
Additional workshops will be held in the fall, leading to a design charrette early next year. If you would like to receive updates and invitations specific to SGOG events in Prince George, please contact Outreach Coordinator Amanda Mitchell to be added to our contact list: amanda@smartgrowth.bc.ca
For additional information about the project, please visit our website www.sgog.bc.ca, contact Project Manager Shana Johnstone at shana@smartgrowth.bc.ca, or Gerald Christie, Long Range Planner, at the City of Prince George at gchristie@city.pg.bc.ca.
This is your opportunity to get involved, to dream big and add your voice to help shape the future of downtown Prince George.
What does your vision of downtown Prince George include?
