In a Toronto school last week, Ontario Minister
of Health
Promotion Margaret Best presented a Guinness World
Record certificate to Green Communities
Canada, recognizing our record-breaking walk on 3 October 2007.
World Record Walk
organizer Harry Sawchuk accepted the certificate on behalf of Green
Communities. 231,635 Canadians smashed the existing record of
100,915 set in 2006 by Western Australia. Pending funding, the next
walk is scheduled for October 2010.

GREENWASH
SAAVY. Participate in the Greenwashing Index, an
online interactive forum evaluating real advertisements that make
environmental claims. Criteria: The ad misleads with words, with
visuals and/or graphics, makes a green claim that is seemingly
unprovable, overstates how green the product/company/service is and
masks important information, making the green claim sound better
than it is.
PLASTIC
SOUP. Once upon a time, there was an island made
of plastic floating in the Pacific Ocean. It was called the Pacific
Ocean Garbage Patch and was expected to double in size every 10
years. Oh … this is actually true!
