Hundreds of collected computers will help BC’s charities and non-profit organizations across the Lower Mainland

VANCOUVER, May 6 /CNW/ – In an effort to raise awareness about electronics recycling and reuse, The Electronic Recycling Association, ERA (with the help of “Laughing Bean Coffee Co.”) collects hundreds of items from local businesses and residents of Vancouver on April 22nd, Earth day.
The Electronic Recycling Association (www.era.ca) is proud to announce a major success from all the Earth day events hosted from April 21-25th 2008. Between the weeklong community round-ups, residential drop-offs and business deliveries, the ERA managed to collect thousands of items for donation and recycling within the week. On April 22nd, between 6:00am and 5:00pm, there were over 500 items dropped off at “Laughing Bean Coffee” in Vancouver BC ranging from computers, to laptops, and even old Nintendo’s. Thanks to the support of local radio stations and media features on Global TV, the event
turned out to be an overwhelming success.
“In planning these Earth-day events, we were unable to determine the outcome and quantities of items we would collect. We were thrilled by the support and efforts from local businesses and residents who dropped off equipment for recycling and reuse. We are hoping to partner with more colleges, property management companies and community centers to host more electronic round-ups this year.” – Joanna Trebon, Operations Manager ERA.
The Electronic Recycling Association is non-profit organization in Vancouver dedicated to reducing electronic waste through the reuse and recycling of unwanted computers and related electronic equipment and the donation of refurbished computers to charities. The equipment is tested and sorted by volunteer technicians and determined whether it is reusable or handled for recycling. ERA provides a variety of services to businesses, schools and government department including pick-up services, data wiping and
more.
“We have donated hundreds of computers across BC to local charities, non profit organizations, seniors centers and low income individuals. We are always looking for more corporate donations of computers, laptops and networking equipment to help build libraries & online stations at local community centers and other non-profit facilities. We hope to double the amount of donations being made in 2008, and continue to upgrade equipment for organizations as technology advances.” – Joanna Trebon, Operations Manager ERA.
ERA is always looking for more volunteer assistance to help rebuild computers and test other units. ERA offers a volunteer placement program open to all local individuals in Vancouver (and surrounding areas) to dedicate some volunteer hours at ERA in order to obtain a refurbished computer system to take home.
