New Main Stage Speakers: Simon Jackson and Meghan Meyers
Simon Jackson founded the Spirit Bear Youth Coalition
– the world’s largest youth-run environmental organization with a
global network of over 6 million – at the age of 13 in the quest to
protect the endangered white Kermode or spirit bear. Today, now 12
years later, Jackson’s campaign has helped protect two-thirds of the
bear’s last intact habitat and is now working to create a Hollywood
animated movie – The Spirit Bear – slated for worldwide release in 2009
in order to protect the final third.
For his work, Jackson was named as one of Time Magazine’s sixty
Heroes for the Planet and was the inspiration for a CTV made-for-TV
movie, Spirit Bear: The Simon Jackson Story.
