Environmental Services Association of Nova Scotia (ESANS)

ESANS serves as the collective voice of our members to promote and develop the environmental industry in Nova Scotia and across Canada. ESANS supports all initiatives and opportunities for productive relationships with environmental related industry associations, organizations, and government.

The Environmental Services Association of Nova Scotia (ESANS) was originally established in 1994 as the Nova Scotia Environmental Industry Association (NSEIA). Our mandate, as a not-for-profit business association serving the environmental industry of Nova Scotia, has remained constant. The re-branding of the organization undertaken in 2006 was to ensure the proper placement of ESANS as a province-wide business organization dedicated to the promotion of environmental products, services and companies within the environmental industry.
The environmental industry has been, and continues to be, one of the fastest growing industry sectors in Nova Scotia. Employment in this discipline throughout Nova Scotia is currently estimated to be over 10,000 people across the public and private sectors. This is a notable increase from the 1994 estimate of 2,500 people. In 2004, the environmental industry of Nova Scotia included over 380 firms and accounted for $389 million in revenues. This numbers will continue to grow as awareness of environmental issues increases and the protection of the environment becomes a greater necessity.
