The Earth’s climate is warming at a quickening pace, with major implications for northern countries like Canada and threats of human suffering and species extinction around the globe, says a new report from a Nobel-winning UN scientific panel.
The potential impact of global warming is “so severe and so sweeping that only urgent, global action will do,” said UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon after the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change issued its fourth and final report this year.
The report summarizes the findings of the three previous reports, emphasizing impacts climate change is likely to have on different parts of the planet and offering broad policy directions for governments.
