Public invitation : Rehabilitating the Fox Creek’s river banks by planting trees!

Moncton, September 19th, 2007. – Since June, the Petitcodiac Watershed Alliance
(PWA) has been working towards re-greening the Fox Creek river banks in Dieppe. The
site chosen is located by the culvert on Melanson Road, between Bourque and Fox Creek roads. It has been carefully chosen for its potential of plantation and to help the stream encounter the changes and residential development that occurred over the last few years on its banks.
An official tree planting event will take place at 1pm on Saturday, September 29th, to
highlight the Maple Leaf day. The PWA, a non-governmental organization, wants to
attract citizens to help with the tree planting, but also to promote the importance of trees
and other plants in a watershed. The selected 25 trees for the planting are indigenous to
the area and will adapt well to the territory, maximizing the project chances of success.
The tree planting will minimize stream bank erosion, while reducing the amount of
sediments directly going into the river.
The PWA hopes that this initiative will be the first of many rehabilitating projects in the
watershed territory of Petitcodiac and Memramcook rivers and encourages citizens of the
area to help with the tree planting in Fox Creek.
