Environmental Employees Required Across All Industries of Canadian Economy

Calgary, June 26, 2007 ?Environmental employment is a significant and growing component of the Canadian labour market, according to a new report by ECO Canada. The Profile of Canadian Environmental Employment report provides insights on environmental employment trends across all sectors of the Canadian economy as well as region-specific data about the environment industry.

?While the demand for environmental professionals continues to surge in Canada, a coordinated strategy to fill this growing demand is required,? said Grant Trump, President and CEO of ECO Canada.
According to the report, an increasing number of companies from various industries are hiring environmental employees. It is estimated that 10.1 percent of organizations across Canada have at least one environmental staff member. Environmental professionals work across all industries, including oil and gas, mining, agriculture, manufacturing and as consultants for other sectors.
?The scope of the environment industry is very broad and is a component, to varying degrees, of every industry in Canada. There are approximately 530,400 environmental employees within major industry groups across Canada. This number represents 3.2% of Canada?s workforce,? said Trump.
Of the estimated 530,400 environmental workers in Canada, 50 percent work in trades/technical occupations, 31 percent are in management positions, 11 percent are in administrative positions, and 8 percent work in sales/service positions. Provinces such as Ontario, British Columbia, and Quebec have the highest concentrations of environmental employment.
