Thexton Oaks is an old growth forest of 40 acres (16 hectares) whose quality and age class are very rare in this region. In an area otherwise 90 percent converted for agriculture, this property shows no visual record of fire, logging, agriculture or other human activity. There are no memories of the property being used for agriculture or any other activities, according to people who have lived in the area for the past 70 years. Last June, the property was protected as part of NCC’s annual Gifts to Canadians.
