The plan to treat toxic material from the Sydney tar ponds and bury it is being met with mixed reaction from residents.
The federal and provincial governments announced Sunday that the toxic sludge will be mixed with a concrete-like substance and covered at a cost of $400 million.

When I published the Sysco book series, I was hoping to
raise awareness of the Tar Ponds cover-up, however when I researched into it
was terrifying to read about how the residents had no say, the government took
over, and so much money was wasted in creating a capsule of underground
chemicals that in twenty-some years will come back to haunt Sydney whenever the
capsule breaks. Sure, it’ll be nice to have a park over the site, but what will
rain and the ocean and city dirt and snow do to the chemicals underground? This
article is very correct, the cleanup is a cover-up.
