UBC has published “Inspirations & Aspirations: The Sustainability Strategy” to show how everyone at UBC is contributing to keeping us Canada’s leader in campus sustainability.
Sustainability is a key component of Trek 2010. Campus-wide consultations — with over 100 departments, student groups and all faculties — revealed how sustainability is being integrated into planning processes at all levels of the university (consultation is on-going at UBC Okanagan and will be reflected in future printings).
Two key sustainability strategy documents are available at www.sustain.ubc.ca:
1) “The Sustainability Strategy” defines the university’s nine major goals and highlights over 68 specific initiatives of departments all across UBC to improve our social, economic, and ecological performance.
It shows how much we are composting, why we are building new neighbourhoods, where to find fairly traded products, and how we’ll meet the targets in the Kyoto Protocol (ahead of time).
2) “The Sustainability Strategy AND YOU” suggests more than two dozen actions individuals can take towards a more sustainable campus: from integrating sustainability into teaching, to cycling or taking the bus, to using services offered by Campus Security, to signing the
Sustainability Pledge.
Both documents are also available in print. The Sustainability Office would also be pleased to give a presentation to your department or group on UBC’s sustainability strategy. Please call
