In the summer of 2002, CELA teamed up with the Toronto Environmental Alliance and the Ontario College of Family Physicians to create the Partnership for Pesticide Bylaws (PPB). The PPB grew quickly to include a wide cross-section of child-focused, health, animal welfare, environmental and labour organizations in support of pesticide bylaws. With limited resources, and many requests for help from across Canada, the groups chose a strategic focus on Toronto in the hopes of seeing Canada’s largest city set an example for others to follow. Success came in the Spring of 2003.
The collection contains publications, articles and media releases related to the PPB efforts as well as documents related to unsuccessful legal challenges (as of early 2004) of the Toronto bylaw from the pesticide industry. See the City of Toronto’s materials about the bylaw on the City’s pesticide information page on-line .
