Citizens Concerned for Michipicoten Bay

A proposed Trap rock mining development in Michipicoten Bay, near Wawa, Ontario, Canada, threatens the longest stretch of undeveloped Lake Superior Coastline and the Great Lakes Heritage Coast. Learn about this proposed project and the environmental and social impacts. Citizens Concerned For Michipicoten Bay are currently lobbying the Ontario Ministry of the Enviroment to designate this project under the Environmental Assessment act and demand that a full Environmental Assessment be conducted in regards to the project.

  1. I fill many roles within and outside my community including municipal council and the Lake Superior Binational Forum. I know you likely do not ‘monitor’ the information posted on your website, but when inaccurate or misleading information is used, that could have an effect on your credibility.
    This particular post may have been true several years ago, but the Ministry of the Environment decided on December 4, 2004 that:
    “As existing legislation has the scope to address the key environmental concerns and public interest, there is no signficant benefit to designating the proposed quarry under the EAA.”
    (EBR #RAO4E001)
    The post on your website states:

    Clearly this is ‘dated’ and inappropriate.
