Proposed Kawarthas legislation a breach of public trust

Ontario Minister of Natural Resources Jerry Ouellette has introduced new legislation that undoes years of public consultation about parks and wilderness. Bill 239, the Recreation Reserve Act, would have the effect of allowing motorized access into natural areas that have been set aside to become provincial parks.<br>

"This is a breach of public trust" says Jean Langlois of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society. "After all that Ontarians have been through, from the elaborate Lands for Life and Ontario's Living Legacy consultations in the nineties through to the Kawartha Highlands consultations this past year, this is a slap in the face to everyone who participated in good faith."<br>
