TORONTO, Aug. 14 /CNW/ – After a decade of growing popularity in Canada's
kitchens and restaurants, the Chilean sea bass may soon be disappearing from
menus. Canada's refusal to join international efforts to distinguish legal
imports from illegally-harvested fish may be partially to blame. A study
released today by TRAFFIC, the wildlife trade monitoring program of World
Wildlife Fund and IUCN – World Conservation Union reports that the popular
white, flaky fish faces over-harvesting due to illegal activities and poor
regulation.
