The final chapter: thank you…

UPDATE: we took a brief hiatus but we are back and rejuvenated.

When I began building thegreenpages.ca in 1998, I never imagined that my humble hobby would grow into something significant. At the time, the internet was experiencing explosive growth, and the “World Wide Web” was filled with an overwhelming amount of information on every topic imaginable. Search engines were still in their infancy, and people struggled to navigate the abundance of information to find relevant and credible sources.

And thus, thegreenpages.ca was born. Inspired by the tried-and-true format of the Yellow pages and the original incarnation of Yahoo!, thegreenpages started off as a simple directory of curated environmental web resources from across Canada. At the time, it was innovative and pioneering, and its lasting impact and influence on online environmental education and activism are undeniable.

As time went, people come and go, new opportunities arrive, families getting bigger, and hence priorities change, we thought it was time to officially say good bye to working on this project. For now, we intend to keep the website up for archival purposes (lots of good historical stuff in here) but we will no longer accept and post up any new stories or events.

We had a great and memorable run…and as the saying goes, “All good things must come to an end”.

I intend for this final post to be an ever-growing tribute, capturing and sharing my lasting gratitude and cherished memories of this grand, life-changing adventure.

• Fraser Los, our lead content editor and founding partner on this wild journey. Fraser emailed me out of no where and wanted to help fix broken links, add new entries, and write stories
• Cindy, Jen, Laura, Michelle, Cody, Darcy, Jessica, Melissa, Tracey….the original volunteer crew and to all the other volunteers who helped build the site
• my loving family, especially my partner who provided unwavering support through it all. I could not have done it without you.
• my co-workers during my co-op stint at Environment Canada and for the Environmental Citizenship award in 2000 from Hon. David Anderson

• Finally, to all the people who were there since Day 1….thank you.

There so many more people that I want to remember and thank who have helped us through this journey. Humblest apologies if I forget anyone, but I will continue to spend time to mention you all…..
