What’s the Green Deal? – Calgary

Calgary – Canadian-owned London Drugs, with stores throughout Western Canada, is proud to announce a 93.1% waste diversion rate for 2015.

It’s an impressive figure that has consistently moved closer to one-hundred per cent since London Drugs launched their What’s the Green Deal? program in 2008 and began tracking all of its waste disposal.

In a continued effort to extend their waste diversion efforts beyond stores and into the Calgary communities they serve, London Drugs is once again partnering with sustainability stewardship programs including Green Calgary for their annual Rain Barrel & Composter Community Sales.

They are also working with Calgary Community Associations to host Community Cleanups throughout the city. These events help divert waste from landfills by encouraging Calgarians to drop off household items that can be donated to local charities or responsibly recycled rather than disposing of unwanted items in the trash.

Last year, London Drugs customers who dropped off their recycling contributed to over 11.5 million pounds of waste being diverted from landfills in cities across Western Canada including 72,236 lbs of Styrofoam through their Bring Back the Pack program.

“It’s through the incredible support of our customers and their recycling efforts in communities like Calgary that we are able to make this kind of impact,” says Maury McCausland, Administrator of Retail Operations and Sustainability for London Drugs.

London Drug’s ‘What’s the Green Deal?’ program also helps customers shop a little greener. Product signs in all London Drugs stores help point out hundreds of goods that have environmental benefits – from recycled content to certified organic production.
