The J.W. McConnell Family Foundation – On July 21, Santropol Roulant, a longtime Foundation grantee, unveiled their new rooftop garden and urban agriculture demonstration site to the public and media.
The unveiling received abundant media coverage, which included a full page article in Metro and a feature on CTV’s Sunday Bite.
“We want this to be a community building. We wanted to move from being a neighbourhood meals-on-wheels to a community food centre,” says Tim Murphy, Santropol’s director of sustainability. “We have compost in the basement, we have gardening on the roof, we have our kitchen on the ground floor. All of this is meant to showcase what it means to have a sustainable urban food cycle.”
