McGuinty lays out plans to cut emissions

The Ontario government unveiled targets Monday to reduce greenhouse gases that fall well short of Britain’s and the European Union’s but well above those set by Ottawa.
Premier Dalton McGuinty announced that Ontario will slash its greenhouse-gas emissions to 6 per cent below 1990 levels by 2014 by closing the last four coal-fired power plants.
This target falls short of the Kyoto protocol, which pledges to reduce emissions two years earlier, by 2012. The federal government of Stephen Harper, by contrast says it will cut emissions 20 per cent from 2006 levels by 2020.
