VTACC is a group of Kitsilano neighbours who are deeply concerned about climate change and want to mobilize people to get engaged politically to call for immediate and deep reductions in emissions. We maintain contact with several hundred supporters at the local, provincial and national level who participate in our various events and activities. We are completely volunteer driven and not affiliated with any political group. Our focus is on grassroots activities, and we encourage people to set up their own groups in their own neighborhoods across the country.
We organized a “No Coal for Christmas!” rally at Kitsilano Beach in December, a “Send a Climate Change Valentine to Ottawa” campaign in February, opinion pieces in the Vancouver Sun, letter writing campaigns to elected officials at the provincial and federal level, and we are now gearing up around the federal election — interviewing nominees and candidates in our riding (Vancouver-Quadra), developing a voter questionnaire for candidates, and promoting the lawn sign campaign.
