As much as P.E.I.’s exploration of alternative energy is driven by economic ambitions, it is also driven by environmental concerns.
Energy use, whether in transportation or power generation, is the main contributors of carbon dioxide emissions that have been blamed for the trend of global warming. The Island alone is estimated by the federal government to have put 2.3 million tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere in 2004.
