ii) Landslides and Forest Operations on Vancouver Island: Understanding
the Hazard and Lowering your Risk
When: Jan 25, 2007.
Where: Victoria
Background:
The workshop attempts to synthesize in a single day the new volume of
landslide information available for Vancouver Island from the Ministry
of Environment. The workshop content is heavily focussed on research
conducted by the Ministry of Environment since 2000, and draws primarily
on published or submitted scientific papers. The goal is to update
participants on this volume of information and highlight management
tools. The workshop will also incorporate current information that is
publicly available from other sources (e.g., MOF, Forest Practices Board
etc). The emphasis of the workshop is on understanding and working with
regional information to improve on-the-ground practices and reduce
landslide risk
For who?
The workshop is targeted at industry, consultants (foresters, engineers
and geoscientists), DFO and provincial government employees. Each
participant will receive a CD that includes a summary of key elements of
the workshop, all the relevant scientific papers, full scale maps (JPGs)
and GIS data for Vancouver Island.
Cost: $55 ($89)
