Centuries of settlement, hunting and logging have seriously impacted mainland Nova Scotia’s biodiversity. Wolves, caribou, and eastern cougar have already been lost. With the listing of mainland moose as an endangered species, conservationists, led by CPAWS-Nova Scotia, decided to use this iconic species as a test of Nova Scotia’s Endangered Species Act and the political will of the province and logging industry to protect and restore biodiversity.
