NCC Launches Sutton Mountains Campaign

NCC-Quebec announced on August 9th that Olympian Clara Hughes will be serving as the spokesperson for its Sutton Mountains campaign. The campaign aims to raise $2.5 million to preserve and steward the area in perpetuity and maintain its biodiversity for present and future generations.

The Sutton Mountains area is one of the last remaining large wilderness regions in southern Quebec, and has been identified by NCC as a priority area for conservation because of its high biodiversity values. Predatory mammals such as Bobcat and Canada Lynx are able to thrive in what is the largest private natural park east of Alberta. Located one hour from both Montreal and Sherbrooke, the Sutton Mountains site includes large sections that are open to the public and are ideal for hiking.
NCC and its partners are concentrating their conservation efforts on protecting the core forest area of the mountains, as well as preserving a buffer zone to maintain the integrity and diversity of the habitats in the Sutton Mountains.
