Deer Control Plan Shows 19th Century Double Standard

OTTAWA — Proposed new regulations which would allow farmers year-round to kill deer that are harming their crops underscores the need for modern regulations regarding predators, an Ottawa Valley environmental group says. "We're impressed by the thorough conditions MNR wants to use to ensure that crop protection does not unduly impact the deer population," comments Jean Langlois of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (Ottawa Valley Chapter). "but our question for MNR is: why aren't they applying the same exacting standards to the province's wolves?"
