CPAWS Calls for Fisheries Closure to Protect Corals

The Nova Scotia Chapter of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) is calling for the immediate closure of an area known as the Stone Fence to all bottom-fishing activities. This closure would protect several species of deep-sea corals found in the area, including the only known specimen of the reef-building coral Lophelia pertusa in Canada. The Stone Fence is located at the Southern edge of the Laurentian Channel, between Cape Breton and Newfoundland.
