OTTAWA, May 9, 2001 – Canada will sign and ratify the United Nations Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), Environment Minister David Anderson announced today. The global agreement, known as the Stockholm Convention, will dramatically reduce or eliminate emissions of twelve toxic substances known as the "dirty dozen," a group that includes PCBs, DDT, dioxins and furans.
