Over the years we as a society have become more conscious of our ecological footprint on this earth. Kidseat Recyclers is the first company to establish a car seat recycling program in Alberta. With the help of a plastic recycler (Friendly Earth) and many volunteers from various organizations within our community, Kidseat Recyclers has recycled hundreds of car seats and established many drop locations since May 2010. We are in need of your support to expand this worthwhile recycling program.

On June 18, 2011 Kidseat Recyclers in conjunction with Strathcona Community Centre will host a fundraising event. We are asking that you consider donating a silent auction item(s) to help us raise the much needed money required to help offset the costs with transportation and recycling levy fees for our Not-For-Profit program.

Your generous donation will go a long way to helping Kidseat Recyclers reach our goal and prevent as many car seats as possible from hitting the landfills.

In recognition with your donation, we will list your company as one of our “recycling partners/friends” on our website and thank you ad in any of our printing material.

According to 2008 report from Stats Canada, 50,856 babies are born in Alberta each year and a total of 377,886 in Canada. Every child is required by law to be in a car seat while riding in a motor vehicle. If half of those parents purchased new car seats (each expiring in 6 to 8 years) that is an astounding number of seats that will end up in our landfills every year!

Our program to date is simply funded by the collection of a $7 recycling levy paid to Kidseat Recyclers by the consumer (those wishing to recycle their car seats). From that $7 – $4.20 is paid per seat to Friendly Earth for the costs associated with re-chipping the seat shells and packaging them for resale on the open market. The remaining $2.80 is put towards fuel for hauling the seats from the drop locations, to the site where they are stripped and readied for recycling, then finally transported again to Friendly Earth.

If you have any questions, please contact LaVonne Ries. We appreciate your support!
