City Green Wins “Business of the Year” and “Innovation” Awards

May 3, 2010 (Victoria, BC) – At a recent awards ceremony, the Greater Victoria Chamber of
Commerce presented City Green Solutions with two awards recognizing the organization’s positive business growth, commitment to quality, and innovative new services.

City Green received the Innovation Award, sponsored by the University of Victoria, and the Business of the Year Award (26-75 employees), sponsored by the Greater Victoria Development Agency.

The only organization to receive two awards this year, City Green is an enterprising non-profit providing tools, resources, services and inspiration to improve the energy efficiency of homes and buildings in BC.

“Being a social enterprise, we use the profits from our fee-for service work to fund our energy saving programs for affordable housing and to support energy efficiency education initiatives,” says Paula Steele, Communications Director for City Green. “We only offer services
that benefit the environment and we seek to reduce our environmental footprint throughout all our operations. Some of our Certified Energy Advisors even carry their equipment to home energy assessments by bicycle!”

Since 1999, City Green has helped over 15,000 clients across BC improve the energy efficiency of their homes, access government grants, save money on their energy bills and shrink their greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 2.6 tonnes per year.

“We are honoured to be recognized among Victoria’s business leaders,” says Steele. “Over the past two years, we increased our revenues by almost 400%, provided 35 new green-collar jobs, and expanded our energy efficiency services to include infrared assessments and energy saving programs for low-income housing.”

City Green is the only non-profit provider of the LiveSmart BC grants and the ecoENERGY program in BC. To book a home energy
assessment, contact City Green at 250.381.9995 or visit http://www.citygreen.ca/.

Representing City Green at the awards ceremony was Wendy Smith, Certified Energy Advisor; Rachelle McElroy, Chair of the Board; Britt Karlstrom, Affordable Warmth Program Coordinator; Dawn Stewart, Finance Officer; Amanda Broad, ecoENERGY Program Manager; Natalie Cushing, Program and Development Assistant; and Paula Steele, Communications Director.
