The City of Mississauga leaps to green electricity

Mississauga Civic Centre is bullfrogpowered(TM)
MISSISSAUGA, ON, June 27 /CNW/ – Bullfrog Power(TM) announced today an agreement with the City of Mississauga to purchase clean, emissions-free electricity for its Civic Centre. Bullfrog Power is a leading Canadian provider of 100 per cent green electricity. All of Bullfrog Power’s wind and low-impact hydro generators meet or exceed the federal government’s Environmental Choice Program EcoLogo(M) standard for renewable electricity. Bullfrog Power was awarded the contract following The City of Mississauga issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a supplier of clean, emissions-free electricity.

“The City of Mississauga is committed to protecting our environment and acting responsibly,” said Hazel McCallion, Mayor, City of Mississauga. “Supporting a green power purchase with Bullfrog Power is a good example of this. We have to work together with all our partners to help keep the environment clean and sustainable for future generations.”

As a result of the purchase agreement with Bullfrog Power, the City of Mississauga will reduce its annual electricity-related CO(2) emissions footprint by almost 1,360 tonnes. In addition to bullfrogpowering the Civic Centre, the city’s energy management program has installed infrared heaters, waste heat recovery systems, rink and garage lighting dimmers in various facilities and LED traffic lights.
“The City of Mississauga is showing great leadership by carefully conserving energy and purchasing locally sourced green power,” said Tom Heintzman, President, Bullfrog Power. “Initiatives such as converting traffic lights to LED technology show a city truly leading by example. We are proud to help the city continue its efforts by reducing its
electricity-related emissions footprint and raising awareness about the choice
for residents and businesses to support renewable electricity.”
Bullfrog customers continue to draw power from the electricity grid in the same way that they always have. Customers don’t need any special equipment, setup or wiring. Verified annually by an independent audit by Deloitte, the amount of electricity Bullfrog customers use is injected onto the electricity grid from EcoLogo(M)-certified wind and low-impact water power generators.
