Kelowna residents can log onto www.kelowna2030.ca to have their say in how their city grows.
The Greening Our Future initiative is seeking broad community input to develop a new Official Community Plan that focuses on sustainability.
“We want Kelowna to be an even better city than it is today,” said Mayor Sharon Shepherd. “We need a plan that will help us grow greener, but we can’t build strong policies without extensive community input, particularly the youth. The policies we create today will influence what life is like in Kelowna over the next 20 years.”
The Greening our Future logo and website is intended to show the youth of today growing into the citizens of tomorrow.
A student from Kelowna Secondary School will provide the first public input into the 2030 Official Community Plan at the school’s Earth Day Eco Fair on April 22.
Should Kelowna grow upward or outward? How do we protect green spaces, water and air quality as we grow?
How can we have more housing that is affordable?
These are some of the questions residents will be asked so their ideas on how sustainable principles are integrated into new land-use, development and transportation policies.
Residents can log into www.kelowna2030.ca to explore various growth scenarios and provide input through an online survey or visit the interactive information booth on display at community events such as Arbour Day, Rutland May Days, the Mayor’s Environmental Expo and the Life and Arts Festival.
