RETROFIT CONFERENCE. Over two dozen Green Communities people attended Energy Retrofits for Houses: Affordable Comfort for Canadians conference, including Kai Millyard and numerous advisors from Ontario and beyond. ED Clifford Maynes moderated a session on low-income weatherization.

NEW NAME. The Greater Sudbury Environment Network is now reThink Green.  See new website and logo, and Sudbury’s Guide to Green Living.

ECO-GIFT WRAPPING. Toronto Green Community is looking for volunteers to participate in its eco-friendly gift wrapping program.

MULTICULTURAL GREEN. Green is for Everyone eco-tips in Mandarin, Punjabi and Spanish play over Victoria’s airwaves. An initiative of the Multicultural Environmental Education Program.

ECOENERGY. On 26 October, GCC Senior Energy Advisor Don Eaton was the featured speaker at a public event hosted by REAL in Smiths Falls. About 30 enthusiastic homeowners attended the presentation, which focused on how to make home energy-efficiency improvements with the help of Green Communities Home Energy Solutions service.

RESOURCE-EFFICIENT HOMES. True Stories: Sustainability in Action conference provides in-depth information, analysis and discussion on some of the most sustainable houses in Canada. By Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. 2-4 November.

FUNDING. Ontario Ministry of the Environment Community Go Green Fund provides $6.6 million over four years to not-for-profit groups to help Ontario achieve its greenhouse gas reduction targets.  Deadline 20 November … Echoing Green Fellowship offers up to $90,000 in seed funding over two-year to social entrepreneurs.  Deadline 2 December.

OIL-LESS SOCIETY. Quebec’s transportation and agriculture sectors are particularly threatened by looming oil shortages, says Équiterre’s document, Pour un Québec libéré du pétrole en 2030.  Solutions include: re-designing cities so that goods and services are available to families within 500 meters of their residences, producing food and goods locally, and affordable alternatives to automobiles … Défi Climat suggests actions to lighten one’s carbon footprint.

CLIMATE EMERGENCY. Climate Cover-Up: The Crusade to Deny Global Warming combats lies about global warming and the PR machine working to spread them. GREEN COMMANDMENTS.  "Ask God for spiritual contentment, the cure for overconsumption" and "Let your voice be heard by governmental officials about current environmental problems" are some of Creation Care suggested actions.

TRANSITION TOWNS. Victoria BC, Nelson BC, Dundas, Guelph and Ottawa, ON, have officially started Transition Initiatives. They join Peterborough, Canada’s first transition town … Documentary In Transition shows real footage from around the world … Transition Tales writing contest: imagine Peterborough in 2030. BAD AIR. Six out of 10 Americans, or 186.1 million people, live in areas where air pollution levels endanger lives, says US Lung Association‘s 2009 State of the Air Report.

GREEN JOBS. Good Green Jobs For All Conference brings together environmentalists, innovators, trade unionists and communities to discuss jobs, equity, social justice and environmental sustainability. Toronto, 7 November.
