Scientists Predict Slightly Higher than Average Ultraviolet-B Values for Spring and Summer 2001

OTTAWA, April 6, 2001 ? Environment Canada scientists predict that the average ozone coverage over southern Canada this spring and summer will be 2 percent less than normal. The thinner ozone layer is expected to increase the ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation reaching the earth's surface by a corresponding 2 percent. This prediction is based on recent analysis of measurements from Canadian ozone stations and from satellite data.
