The Natural Step is partnering with The University of Western Ontario’s Masters of Environment and Sustainability (MES) program again to provide training and mentorship for students in their summer co-op placements. After a successful pilot in the summer of 2009, 10 students will be partnered with host organizations on sustainability-related projects. Hitting the Nail on the Head with Sustainable Building and Environmental Education It’ll take 26 college students, two instructors, one not-for-profit organization, two educational institutions and a whole lot of community support, but Peterborough will have one of the most sustainable buildings in Canada. Camp Kawartha, a not-for-profit outdoor education centre and summer camp, has partnered with the newly-formed Gainey Foundation, Trent University, and Sir Sandford Fleming College’s Sustainable Building Design and Construction (SBDC) program, to build an innovative, one-of-a-kind Environment Centre. Unique to Toronto, Youth Camera Action is a two-week program (August 10th - 21st) that combines the exciting world of film and video production with the environment. Geared toward youth between the ages of 14 – 18 from the GTA, participants will explore important environmental issues through the camera’s lens and have the opportunity to create their very own video. This program is designed to encourage creative exploration and expression while developing fundamental awareness of global environmental issues.
